Mutiny Bay Mini Golf: Pirate Ships, Cannon Battles & the Famous Mischief Spinner
The cannon blast catches everyone off guard. A six-year-old shrieks and grabs his dad’s leg. Water sprays across the bow of a full-scale pirate ship while your ball rolls under the hull, disappearing into a cave you didn’t see coming. Then the Mischief Spinner lands on “putt with your eyes closed,” and suddenly your twelve-year-old is laughing so hard she can barely hold her putter.
That’s a typical hole at Mutiny Bay Miniature Golf — three minutes from our condo at 601 Hillside Dr N, with 36 holes across two wildly different courses and one of the best all-day pass values in the Myrtle Beach area. Here’s everything you need to know.

Two Courses, Two Experiences
Port Royal — The Classic Course
Port Royal is the more traditional of the two courses. Caribbean pirate theming throughout — tropical foliage so thick it brushes your shoulders, waterfalls that splash cool mist across the walkway, pirate-filled caves where you putt by torchlight, and treasure chests spilling painted gold coins. The holes are well-designed with a good mix of straightforward putts and tricky angles. You’ll play several holes on and around the massive Jolly Roger pirate ship that towers over the course, its wooden deck creaking underfoot as you line up your shot.
Every 30 minutes, the ship comes alive with a full pirate battle — cannon blasts loud enough to make you flinch, water sprays that catch the nearest players off guard, and dramatic sound effects that rumble through the deck planks. It’s loud, it’s fun, and kids absolutely love it. Time your game so you’re near the ship when the battle erupts.
Barbados — The Spinner Course (Play This One)
The Barbados course is what makes Mutiny Bay special. At every other hole, you encounter the Mischief Spinner — spin it, and the result determines a wacky challenge for your next putt:
- Putt with your eyes closed
- Swing from behind your back
- Use the wrong end of the club
- Putt one-handed
- Let another player be your “obstacle”
The spinners are genius. The clatter as the wheel slows, the collective groan or cheer when it lands — they level the playing field between competitive adults and little kids. They create the kind of laughing-so-hard-you-can’t-breathe moments that become vacation stories, the kind where dad is crouched behind a palm tree trying to putt between his legs while his family films it. And they make every round completely different — you could play Barbados five times and never have the same experience.
If you’re playing both courses, start with Port Royal (the classic experience), then finish with Barbados (the unforgettable one).
The Pirate Ship
The Jolly Roger is visible from Highway 17 — masts and rigging silhouetted against the sky, pulling your eyes off the road before you even know what you’re looking at. But it’s more than a decoration. Several holes on the Port Royal course are actually played on the ship, the weathered planks under your sneakers and the rope railings rough under your palm as you take in elevated views of the entire course below. The pirate battle that erupts every 30 minutes includes cannon blasts that echo off the surrounding buildings, water effects that catch the breeze, and enough drama to stop everyone mid-putt for a look.
Kids will want to linger on the ship. Let them. It’s part of the experience.
The All-Day Pass: Why It’s a No-Brainer
At $13 for a single adult round, Mutiny Bay is already fairly priced. But the All-Day Pass at $19.50 turns it into one of the best values in NMB. For just $6.50 more, you get unlimited golf from 9 AM to 11 PM — and you don’t have to stay.
Play a round in the morning. Leave for the beach. Come back after dinner and play again under the lights. At 3 minutes from the condo, it’s almost like having your own mini golf course.
Play both courses twice and you’ve gotten the equivalent of four rounds for the price of 1.5.
Hopper Pass ($25): Gets you unlimited play at Mutiny Bay PLUS Molten Mountain and Cancun Lagoon — all three Paradise Adventure Golf courses for one day.

Tips for Your Visit
- Play Barbados with the spinners. It’s the signature experience. Don’t skip it.
- Buy the All-Day Pass. At $19.50, you’ll almost certainly play enough to make it worthwhile.
- Arrive early or after dinner. Midday in summer can be hot and crowded. Morning rounds (9–10 AM) are less crowded, and evening rounds (7–9 PM) are cooler with great lighting.
- Check for coupons. The Monster Coupon Book (free at hotel lobbies and gas stations) often has $1–2 off per person. Early morning specials ($5/person 10am–12pm) are sometimes offered.
- Bring bug spray for evening play. Mosquitoes can be active after sunset near the tropical foliage.
- Closed in January. Open March through December. Peak season hours are 9am–11pm.
Best For
- Families with kids 5+ — The spinners are a hit with elementary-age kids and up
- Couples — The pirate ship and evening atmosphere make for a fun date night
- Competitive groups — The spinners add chaos that makes it anyone’s game
- Anyone who wants the best value — The All-Day Pass at 3 minutes from the condo can’t be beat
Three Minutes from Cannon Fire to Your Own Front Door
The Mischief Spinner just made you putt with your eyes closed. The Jolly Roger’s cannons are still ringing in your ears. Your kid beat you by four strokes because the spinners don’t care about your adult pride. And in three minutes flat, you’re back at 601 Hillside Dr N in Ocean Keyes — a 3BR/2BA condo with a full kitchen, two king beds, and a 0.65-mile walk to the beach for tomorrow morning. That’s the Mutiny Bay advantage: the best mini golf in NMB is practically in your front yard.
