Molten Mountain Mini Golf: Indoor Air-Conditioned Putt-Putt (Your Rainy Day Savior)
Every beach vacation hits a moment — the afternoon thunderstorm that rolls in from nowhere, the July day when the heat index makes the sand feel like a skillet, or the spring evening that turns unexpectedly chilly. When that moment arrives, Molten Mountain mini golf is your answer.
It’s the only mini golf course in North Myrtle Beach with 18 holes of indoor, air-conditioned play. Five minutes from our condo at 601 Hillside Dr N. And it’s got a 50-foot volcano that erupts with real fire and steam every 30 minutes, just to keep things interesting.

Two Courses, One Volcano
Pele’s Revenge — The Outdoor Course
The outdoor course wraps around the base of the 50-foot volcano, and every 30 minutes it erupts — real fire shoots from the top, a blast of heat washes over you, steam rolls down the sides carrying the faint sulfur tang of pyrotechnics, and kids freeze mid-putt to watch with their mouths open. The holes weave through painted lava rivers, past stone-faced tiki guardians, and under tropical foliage thick enough to block the sun. Spinners on the outdoor course add wacky challenges, just like at sister course Mutiny Bay.
On a comfortable evening, Pele’s Revenge is the course to play. The volcano eruption hits differently at dusk — orange flames licking the purple sky, the rumble vibrating through the soles of your shoes, and the tiki torches along the path casting flickering shadows across the greens.
Lava Louie’s Challenge — The Indoor AC Course
This is the course that makes Molten Mountain essential for any NMB trip. Eighteen holes of air-conditioned play through the heart of the volcano. The moment you step through the entrance, cool air hits your face and the light drops to a deep amber glow. Rumbling sound effects vibrate through the walls, the faint hum of the AC blends with volcanic rumblings, and Lava Louie’s gravelly voice provides commentary as you navigate the underground lair. Red and orange uplighting makes your ball cast long shadows across greens that seem to pulse with underground heat.
The indoor course is somewhat dark — it’s designed to feel like you’re inside a volcano, after all. The atmosphere is great for older kids and adults who lean into the mood. Younger kids (under 5) might want to start on the outdoor course and work their way inside once they’re comfortable.
Why it matters: When you’re searching “things to do on a rainy day in North Myrtle Beach,” this is the answer you’re looking for. No other NMB mini golf course can keep your family entertained regardless of weather. Air conditioning in July is a genuine luxury when every other putt-putt course has you sweating through 18 holes.
The All-Day Pass Play
Like Mutiny Bay and Cancun Lagoon, Molten Mountain is part of the Paradise Adventure Golf family and shares the same all-day pass structure:
| Pass | Price | What You Get |
|---|---|---|
| Single Round | $13.00 | 18 holes at one course |
| All-Day Pass | $19.50 | Unlimited golf 9am–11pm at Molten Mountain |
| Hopper Pass | $25.00 | Unlimited at all 3 Paradise locations |
| Paradise Passport | $32.00 | 3-day unlimited at all 3 locations |
The All-Day Pass is especially smart at Molten Mountain. Play the outdoor course in the morning when it’s cool. Hit the beach for the afternoon. Come back for the indoor course after dinner when the kids need something to do. Two completely different experiences, one $19.50 wristband.
What Reviewers Say
“We love going to Molten Mountain — prices are reasonable and they have a nice indoor (air-conditioned!) course.”
“We had so much fun laughing and competing. I loved the theme of volcanoes and the informational pieces along the way.”
“Great for both a sunny and rainy day — they have an indoor course.”
“My family enjoyed our first round on the indoor course. After finishing, we won a pass for another round of golf when we returned our balls.”
The Extras
Snack Shack: Soda, water, beer, Dippin’ Dots, and frozen bananas. The cold sweetness of a Dippin’ Dots cup between rounds — rainbow-colored ice cream beads melting on your tongue while you sit on the bench and watch the next eruption — is a small luxury. Perfect for refueling between rounds without leaving the property.
Stuff Shop: Gift shop with souvenirs and mini golf gear.
Coupons: Check MyrtleBeach.com for All-Day Pass discounts and before-6-PM specials. The Monster Coupon Book (free at hotel lobbies) usually has something too.
Tips for Your Visit
- Rain plan = Lava Louie’s. Check the weather forecast and have Molten Mountain ready as your indoor backup. You don’t need to decide in advance — just drive over when the rain starts.
- Hot afternoon? Go inside. The indoor course is comfortably air-conditioned while outdoor courses along Hwy 17 are sweltering.
- Play outdoor at dusk. The volcano eruption is most dramatic when the sky is darkening and the flames stand out.
- Younger kids: start outside. Lava Louie’s indoor course is atmospheric (dark, rumbling sounds) — some little ones do better starting with the brighter outdoor course.
- Year-round operation. Unlike most NMB courses that close in winter, Molten Mountain operates year-round (weekends only in January–February).
- Buy the All-Day Pass. Two courses plus the ability to leave and come back makes $19.50 a no-brainer.
Best For
- Rainy day families — The only indoor AC mini golf in NMB
- July/August visitors — Escape the heat without leaving the fun
- Spring/fall visitors — Open year-round when other courses are closed
- The Hopper Pass crowd — Pair with Mutiny Bay and Cancun Lagoon for an epic day
