Mini Golf at Night in North Myrtle Beach: Where to Play After Dark

Mini Golf at Night in North Myrtle Beach: Where to Play After Dark

The volcano erupts — real flames shooting against a pitch-black sky, steam hissing through the rocks — and your seven-year-old freezes mid-putt, mouth wide open. Down the highway, a 30-foot T-Rex glows electric green, casting neon shadows across the fairway while crickets hum from the palmetto scrub beyond the fence. The air has finally cooled. The crowds have thinned. And the courses that looked fun at noon now look absolutely otherworldly.

Mini golf at night in Myrtle Beach transforms the entire experience — cooler temperatures, shorter waits, and theming that was designed to come alive after dark. Most NMB courses stay open until 11 PM during peak season, which means you can spend the day at the beach, grab dinner, and still have three hours of prime putting time. From our condo at 601 Hillside Dr N, every course below is a 3–10 minute drive.

The Best Night Courses in NMB

Dinosaur Adventure Golf — The Night King

5 min from the condo | 36 holes | Open late

During the day, Dinosaur Adventure is a solid mini golf course with giant dino replicas. At night, it’s transformed. Every dinosaur lights up in dramatic colors — a T-Rex glows electric green, raptors cast long purple shadows across the fairway, and the 85-foot beached steamship becomes an illuminated centerpiece, its hull reflecting off the surrounding water. The waterfalls catch the colored lighting and shimmer like liquid neon, and the jungle foliage rustles in the evening breeze, creating an atmosphere that’s part theme park, part midnight adventure. Crickets and tree frogs fill the quiet between holes with a chorus you never hear during the daytime crowds.

If you only play one course after dark, make it this one. The lighting design was clearly built for night play.

Night tip: Arrive by 9 PM to get a full round in before the 11 PM close. The T-Rex and Raptor courses offer different experiences — play both if time allows.

Molten Mountain — Fire in the Dark

5 min from the condo | 36 holes | Year-round

The 50-foot volcano at Molten Mountain erupts every 30 minutes with real fire and steam. During the day, it’s impressive. At night, it’s jaw-dropping. The flames shoot upward against a pitch-black sky, painting the entire course in flickering orange light. Steam billows down the sides and drifts across the nearest holes like fog. Every eruption pulls gasps from players mid-putt — you feel the heat on your face from twenty yards away.

Play Pele’s Revenge (outdoor course) after dark for the full volcanic experience. The tiki torches lining the walkway throw dancing shadows across the greens, and the smell of the night-blooming jasmine along the fence mixes with the faint char of the pyrotechnics. Or if the evening turns cool, retreat to Lava Louie’s indoor course — the only air-conditioned mini golf in NMB.

Night tip: Time your round to be near the volcano at eruption time. The outdoor course positions several holes with direct volcano views.

Mutiny Bay — Pirates After Dark

3 min from the condo | 36 holes | The closest course

Mutiny Bay’s pirate battle erupts every 30 minutes — cannon fire that echoes across the parking lot, water sprays catching the colored spotlights like liquid jewels, dramatic sound effects booming from speakers hidden in the palms. In the evening, the Jolly Roger pirate ship is lit up against the sky like a ghost vessel, its rigging glowing, and the Caribbean-themed foliage creates shadowy, atmospheric putting where your ball disappears into darkness before reappearing on the other side of a tunnel. The Mischief Spinner challenges are even funnier when you’re trying to putt with your eyes closed in low light.

Night tip: The Barbados course with its spinners is perfect for evening play. The lower lighting makes the wacky challenges even more entertaining.

Hawaiian Rumble — Flames in Paradise

7 min from the condo | 18 holes | Championship course

Hawaiian Rumble’s 40-foot volcano erupts with real flames every 20 minutes. After sunset, the flames are the star of the show — visible from across the lush Hawaiian garden. The course lighting is tasteful and atmospheric, keeping the tropical garden feel while adding a warm glow. Jimmy Buffett-style Hawaiian music under the stars makes this the most romantic night round in NMB.

Night tip: This is the best couples’ date-night mini golf. The atmosphere is genuinely beautiful after dark. Play around 8 PM for the sunset-to-stars transition.

Black Pearl — Cherry Grove After Dark

8 min from the condo | 18 holes | One-stop evening

Black Pearl near Cherry Grove Pier is well-lit for night play by design. The pirate-ship decor takes on a ghostly quality under the evening floods, waterfalls glisten in the spotlights, and the caves feel darker and more adventurous than they do at noon. The arcade’s electronic chimes and the sweet smell of fresh waffle cones from Mermaid’s Dream Ice Cream drift across the parking lot. Combine with the attached arcade (65 games), Lollipop Candy Shop, and ice cream for a complete family evening — putt, play, eat ice cream, all in one stop.

Night tip: Black Pearl closes earlier than most (9 PM weeknights, 10 PM Fri-Sat), so start earlier in the evening. The arcade stays open if the kids need more time.

Why Night Play Is Better

Cooler temperatures. July and August days on the Grand Strand mean 90°F+ heat and brutal humidity. By 8 PM, temperatures drop into the low 80s or upper 70s. The evening breeze carries the faint salt of the ocean from a few miles east, and you can actually focus on your putting instead of mopping sweat from your grip.

Smaller crowds. Most families play during the day. Evening rounds — especially after 8:30 PM — are noticeably less crowded. Less waiting between holes means a more relaxed experience. You can hear the water features, the distant rumble of a volcano, the soft clack of a ball rolling into the cup instead of the midday chatter of a hundred players.

Better atmosphere. Mini golf courses invest in lighting, fire effects, and nighttime ambiance for a reason. Shadows deepen, neon colors pop against the dark, and fire effects that looked decorative at noon look cinematic at 9 PM. The courses genuinely look and feel different after dark.

No sunburn. After a full day at the beach, the last thing your sun-tightened skin needs is more UV exposure. Night mini golf is SPF-free fun.

Night Mini Golf Tips

  1. Arrive by 9 PM. Most courses close at 11 PM in peak season. A full round takes 45–75 minutes depending on crowds, so arriving at 9 gives you comfortable time.
  2. Bring bug spray. Mosquitoes are active after sunset, especially near water features and tropical foliage. A quick spray before you start makes a difference.
  3. Wear shoes with grip. Evening dew can make surfaces slippery. Skip the flip-flops for close-toed shoes.
  4. Check closing times. Peak season (June–August) means 11 PM closes. Spring and fall hours may be shorter. Call ahead or check course websites.
  5. Combine with dinner. Play after an early dinner at one of the walkable Main Street restaurants and you’ve got a perfect evening planned with zero driving — dinner on Main Street, walk back to the condo, drive 3 minutes to Mutiny Bay.
  6. The All-Day Pass strategy: Buy an All-Day Pass in the morning, play a round, hit the beach all day, come back at night for round two under the lights. Same $19.50 — completely different experience.
