Spring Break 2026 in North Myrtle Beach: Your Trip Planning Guide
You pull into the Ocean Keyes gate after six hours on I-95, roll down the windows, and there it is — salt air, warm enough to feel on your skin, carrying the faint thump of beach music from somewhere down Main Street. The kids unbuckle before you’ve even parked. Your shoulders drop about three inches. Spring break has officially started.
Spring break 2026 in North Myrtle Beach peaks the week of March 16-22, but the entire stretch from early March through late March brings steady waves of families, golf groups, and friend trips to the Grand Strand. NMB is the sweet spot — the beach vacation without the Myrtle Beach party-strip chaos, where the biggest decision you’ll face is whether to hit the golf course or the sand first.
When Is Spring Break 2026?
| Window | Who’s Off |
|---|---|
| Mar 2–6 | Some universities and warmer-climate schools |
| Mar 16–22 | Peak week — most K-12 schools and colleges |
| Mar 23–27 | Northeastern schools, some stragglers |
| Early April | A handful of East Coast schools |
The sweet spot: If you can travel outside peak week (March 16–22), the first two weeks of March offer the same great weather with smaller crowds and easier restaurant reservations. Late March is also excellent.
What’s the Weather Like?
March in NMB is one of the best-kept secrets on the Grand Strand. The mornings have a cool bite that wakes you up on the walk to the beach, but by noon the sun has real warmth in it and you’re peeling off your jacket:
| Metric | What to Expect |
|---|---|
| Highs | 64–68°F (warming through the month) |
| Lows | Mid 40s at night |
| Rain | ~30% chance on any given day |
| Sunshine | Abundant — long, pleasant days |
| Ocean temp | 55–61°F (too cold for most swimmers, but great for beach walks) |
| Humidity | Low — the summer humidity hasn’t arrived yet |
What to pack: Layers. March mornings can be chilly (mid 40s), but afternoons often hit the upper 60s or even low 70s. A light jacket for morning golf or beach walks, shorts and t-shirts for afternoons. Evenings vary — bring a sweatshirt for mini golf after dark.
The ocean is still cool — most families won’t be swimming, but beach walks, sandcastle building, and surf fishing are perfect. The community pools at Ocean Keyes are the go-to for water play.
What’s Open in March?
The short answer: Almost everything.
- Golf courses — All 13 courses in our golf guide are open and in excellent spring condition. March is the start of peak golf season. Book tee times early for popular courses like Tidewater and Barefoot Resort.
- Mini golf — Most courses reopen in March. Mutiny Bay (3 min from the condo) is open. Molten Mountain operates year-round. Hawaiian Rumble is open daily.
- Barefoot Landing — Shopping, dining, and entertainment are all running. Alabama Theatre has shows throughout March.
- Restaurants — All the walkable Main Street spots are open. Barefoot Landing restaurants are in full swing.
- Water sports — Dolphin cruises, jet ski rentals, and kayak tours begin their spring schedules in March.
- Fat Harold’s — Open. Beach music and shag dancing on Main Street, walkable from the condo.
Spring Break Golf Deals
March is when the golf deals are best. The courses are emerald-green from spring rains, the air is cool enough to walk 18 without wilting, and the tee boxes are still smooth from winter overseeding. Courses are competing for your business before peak summer rates kick in:
- Barefoot Resort has been running spring multi-round specials — play all four courses and save up to 30% per round.
- Sea Trail/River’s Edge winter promos extend into early March with multi-round discounts.
- Multi-play discounts across the Grand Strand — book 3+ rounds and save 10% per round at participating courses.
Check myrtlebeachgolf.com and individual course websites for the latest spring specials. Book early — tee times during spring break week fill up fast.
How to Beat the Spring Break Crowds
- Book restaurants early. Peak-week dinner reservations at popular spots like Greg Norman’s and Miyabi hibachi should be made in advance.
- Play golf early. Morning tee times are most popular. Consider afternoon rounds for lower rates and shorter waits.
- Hit Barefoot Landing on weekday evenings. Weekend crowds are heavier. Tuesday and Wednesday nights feel practically normal.
- Walk to dinner. The Main Street restaurants (Soho, NY Pizza Kitchen, Hoskins) are walkable from the condo — no parking battles.
- Go to the beach in the morning. By afternoon, popular access points get crowded. Morning beach time + afternoon activities is the winning formula.
- Use the All-Day Pass for mini golf. Play a morning round when it’s quiet, come back at night when the courses are more atmospheric.
A Perfect Spring Break Day
7:30 AM — Morning tee time at Thistle Golf Club (15 min from the condo). The fairways are still damp with dew, the air is cool and pine-scented, and the course is practically yours.
12:00 PM — Lunch at Sakura Hibachi Buffet (5 min). Watch the chef flip shrimp tails into his hat while the sizzle of teriyaki fills the room.
1:30 PM — Beach time. Walk 0.65 miles through Ocean Keyes to 3rd Ave N. The sand is warm under your feet, the waves are steady and hypnotic, and the kids are already halfway to the water with their boogie boards.
4:00 PM — Back to the condo. Pool at Ocean Keyes. Relax on the enclosed patio with a cold drink while the late-afternoon sun slants through the screen.
6:00 PM — Walk to Main Street for dinner at Fenway Grille or Soho. The evening air is soft, and you can hear live music drifting from Fat Harold’s as you stroll.
7:30 PM — Night mini golf at Mutiny Bay (3 min) — neon-lit waterfalls and pirate ships glowing in the dark — or a show at Alabama Theatre (8 min).
Events During Spring Break
- NMB St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival (March 14) — 35th annual! Parade starts at 9 AM on Main Street — you’ll hear the bagpipes a block before you see them, and the smell of funnel cakes and pulled pork hangs in the air all morning. Festival runs until 4 PM. ~40,000 attendees. This falls right before peak spring break week — perfect timing.
- Alabama Theatre shows — ICONIC variety show running multiple dates. Hotel California Eagles tribute on March 13. ICONIC throughout March.
- House of Blues concerts — Aly & AJ (March 8), Gasolina Party (March 14), Mammoth (March 19).
Dewy Tee Times, Neon Mini Golf, and Main Street Dinners on Foot
Spring break at 601 Hillside Dr N plays out like the sample day you just read: a morning round at Thistle with dew still on the fairways, beach time at 3rd Ave N while the kids chase waves with boogie boards, the pool at Ocean Keyes when the afternoon sun gets warm, then a walk to Fenway Grille for dinner and neon-lit Mutiny Bay after dark. No rental car keys required for half of it. No fighting for parking at any of it. And after the kids crash, you’re on the balcony with a drink and the distant sound of beach music drifting from Fat Harold’s.
Peak week (March 16-22) books fast — families who’ve stayed before already know. Lock in your dates before they do.
